RayPac Pool heater 2100 335btu

Hello all does anyone have any ideas about my pool heater that is lighting up very nicely but is giving off an odor that is probably not right. I checked the main burner and i am getting a nice blue flame of about 3 inches and the water is warming up slightly but not as hot as it should i guess. The odor is a little strong when you get close but i checked the main burner and gas line for any leaks and i dont see any. Please any help will be appreciated.

You dont say what gas you have. LP or Nat. Id say a 3" flame is not right for sure . clean the burners check the venturi on them check the pressure on the gas line for sure . Need a manometer for that then reset the burners.

Need some details,

What gas? LP or Natural?

What is model of heater? Electronic or pilot?

How old is heater?

What kind of smell? Raw gas? Burning flesh? Weeds burning?

How long does smell last?

Does heater eventually shut off?

When you look at burner tray, are all tubes lit and fully lit all the way back?

RayPac Pool heater 2100 335btu

Thanks for replying. Okay its a RayPac Pool heater 2100 335btu natural gas with an electronic pilot. The smell is not very strong but it is a raw gas smell and the heater does continue to heat and it does not turn off. Oh and all of the tubes are fully lit to the back because i cleaned them out and pressure tested the burner tube for leaks. I was thinking that maybe the fire wall inside might be the smell. Let me know if you can help. and thanks alot again

Being electronic and running without shut off, it sounds like it may be a normal smell. If you sprayed all the joints with soapy water and had no bubbles its hard to say there is a leak.

If you smell it only when heater is on, the only place it could be leaking would be on the fire side of gas valve. When ignited, it would ignite a leak as well more than likely.

Without smellling it, I would have to say its normal. You said there was all blue flam, no orange or redish??? So its burning good.

raypac pool heater 2100 335 btu

Thanks again.. Yes the flames are a nice blue but they are only about 3 inches high compared to my older 260,000 btu of the same model. The water is warming up but not as hot as it should. Could there be an adjustment in the gas valve that could increase the flame? Thanks again

There is an adjustment, but you will need a manometer to measure and check manifold pressures before attempting to adjust.
