Replacing the sand.

What type of sand should I be using in my above ground pool sand filter ?

I bought play sand since it's so clean but it seems to be awfully fine and upon start up I've got a good amount of sand in the bottom of the pool now. Is that just due to new sand or do I need to use a different type ??

Some play sand will work but some won't. When changing sand you MUST fill tank half with water before adding sand. If this wasn't done you probably broke a lateral. I would remove sand inspect all laterals and hub closely. If all looks good put sand .45 - .55 mm rough not smooth back in it. Start filter on backwash to clean sand, then rinse, then filter...This should do it...

follow your manufactures recommendation, if you don't have an owners manual, your local pool store should, write down any specs that may be on the filter & ? or take a picture your pool supply store should be able to figure it out, most sand filters take up to 300 lbs. of #20 silica sand
