Liner Padding Above ground pool

I'm in process of putting in new liner for 27' above ground pool. I previously had the roll foam padding between sand and liner. The old padding is not usable from liner removal and a friend suggested using the foam padding you can buy at a home depot for floating floor installation that has a the vapor barrier built in. Has anyone ever used this as a replacement type of material for the "happy pad" type of padding? It would be about $60.00 cheaper using the Home Depot type of padding compared to buying from pool store. I can't see much difference between the products.
