Pool Filter Help

I have an 1980 Sta-Rite DE filter that has a bend retaininer band that causes the seal to leak. Not had much luck with trying to find a machine shop willing to try and straighten and re-weld the the band.
So...looks like I will be buying a new filter.
I am looking for recommendations on a replacement filter for a 15,000 gal. in ground screened pool. I know DE filters smaller particles, but do I really need that? Am thinking about a cartridge type filter.
Any recommendation as to value and quality would be appreciated.
I may add a salt water chlorinator in the future. Do they work any better with one type of filter vs. another?

I switched from cartridge to DE about 5 or 6 years ago and the only way I'm going back is with a gun at my head.

A lot of people swear by sand filters, too.
