Question

We would like to close our pool this fall instead of having a pool service. Can anyone tell us how to do it? Any good books or web sites on this subject? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Don't know why anyone would pay someone to open and/or close their pool. Very easy to do. Superchlorinate your water and drain below jets. (if this is an inground pool) You will need to blow out your lines with a wet-vac or something comparable. Take off ladders, diving boards, etc. Turn off pump and motor for winter. Fill lines with Anti-freeze. This is available at all pool supply stores. (Take skimmer baskets out and pour antifreeze into drain till full. You should have two long blue tubes that twist into the drains.) After pouring in Antifreeze, twist the tubes into the drain openings. Remove eyeballs from jets. Cover with a good winter cover, anchor and voila! you are closed for the winter. The better you superchlorinate and close your pool the easier it will be to open next spring.
