Replacing gas valve

I have a minimax Plus 250 pool heater which stopped working this season. All lights on, but no heat. On removing the cover, the wires leading from the honeywell vr8304 module to the transformer are pretty charred, as is the electrical module on the valve. It looks like the entire vr8304v needs replacing. I'm pretty DIY-inclined, I was wondering if this is a project I can tackle, & if anybody knows the cheapest place to purchase the module.
Thanks!

it is pretty simple, you will have to judge however there is a reason this has happened, heater probably needs to be cleaned including exchanger.
