Does Installing A Thicker Vinyl Inground Pool Liner Make Sense?

I'm going to have a new vinyl liner installed this fall in my 16' x 32' inground pool to replace my 15 year old original liner. The original is a standard thickness good quality liner that has had several holes in the floor patched over the last 5 or 6 years and is fading in a few spots so I figure its time to replace.

I'm considering having a new liner installed that is 28 mils thick instead of the standard 20 mils thick ones.

It only costs a few hundred dollars more but I'm wondering whether there is any down side to the thicker liner?

I would appreciate any opinions and feedback regarding whether or not a thicker liner makes sense.

Thank you.
