Drain pool via backwash

(Finally) getting around to closing down my own pool rather than hiring it out. It's a vinyl side that I'll be partially draining -- footish below skimmer level.

I was told some years ago by a pool service company not to just backwash out the water with the pool pump. But I have a shutoff valve to the skimmer. Assuming I shut off that valve (and plug the hole for good measure) what's the harm in partially draining it that way?

Thanks,

John

Thats what I do.

But instead of backwash you could use vac to waste.

But I would think draining in backwash mode will get the sand nice and clean and ready for the following year.

I see nothing wrong with it.
