Cleaning whirlpool tub jets

We moved into a home last December and had a problem with our whirlpool tub jets, so didn't use the whirlpool function for 4 months. That's now been fixed and I want to clean out and disinfect the unit. However, I don't know the maker so can't determine their limitations. In addition, we have a septic system and can't use bleach. I've read about dishwasher detergent or vinegar and baking soda plus there's several products available.

Please provide suggestions on how best to clean out the jets and what to do going forward.

there are many types of pool and spa cleaner, most are pretty good. If you want to sanitize with bleach, simply make a bucket of 5gal water to 1 cup bleach. After cleaning the fill it up with regular water, let sit a couple hours then drain. The bleach will be neutral by then.
