Painting Gunite Pools

Has anyone ever painted a gunite pool? Do you recommend it? If these pools are to be painted, how often do you do so? Any tips on this would be greatly appreciated. Why are the colors of pool paint so limited. I have seen the color "Black" in pool paints, but have been told it is illegal to paint pools black, why? Depth confusion?
