New 12 awg gauge wires for 2 hp pool pump
I am replacing my 2 hp pentair pool pump with the exact same model (so all wiring etc remain the same).
While removing the old motor I noticed that the old 12 awg wires were extremely rigid with the insulation frayed at places. So I am thinking of replacing the wiring from the intermatic timer to the motor.
Question:
1) Why is the old wire so rigid and hard to handle (I noticed that 12 gauge single strand wire at hardware store was much more softer. Is the pool wire of some special rigid type?)
2) More importantly what type of wire to use for replacing. I guess I need THWN, but I did not find any at local hardware stores. Are all southwire simpull THHN also THWN?
I appreciate your time to read, and reply

Simpull wiring is waterproof and fine to use. Most THHN wiring today is THHN/THWN compliant.
You can use solid or stranded. Stranded is more flexible but harder to install on the motor terminals.
Usually if I use stranded I'll put ring crimps on.
