Pool pump cycling on and off

Recently bought a house with an above ground pool. The pump cycles on and off about every 5 minutes. Is that normal? I’ve only dealt with one other pool pump in my life and it ran constantly.

Carefully feel the motor. Is it very hot ?
If it is.... it's shutting down on thermal overload.

Yes, it’s very hot. I guess that means it’s time for a new pump?

Yes...... that's what I'm thinking.
If it's noisy...... it could just need bearings. Those are replaceable.
