In-Ground Pool Purchase

We are considering purchasing an in-ground pool. We have small yard but have identified a 30'x30' area on our property. We don't necessarily want to fill the whole space. What priorities should be establish in regard to construction and design?

Thanks!

Tom

PS: We live in Northern New Jersey

Buying a swimming pool

Contrary to popular belief a swimming pool does not hold water as a capital investment; an average pool, costing $19,000, will only add 33% or $6,500, to the value of your home. Many buyers consider a pool as a safety problem and a maintenance burden and expense according to NARI. HOW TO ADD VALUE TO YOUR HOME.
