French Toast

One of many versions! Here you go and enjoy!

Abbreviations:
tbsp = Tablespoon
tsp = teaspoon

*************
2 eggs
smidge of salt

1 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 cup light cream or half-n-half

1/2 tsp. vanilla

8 slices French bread cut-
diagonally in thick slices

Butter

1/4 cup applesauce

3/4 cup thin custard sauce

1 tbsp. powdered sugar for-
sprinkling



Beat eggs, cream sugar, salt, vanilla. Dip bread and saute in butter until golden brown.
Arrange in casserole. Mix applesauce and custard. Pour over bread.


***Optional: Sprinkle with powdered sugar.

Bake in 350 degree oven about 15 minutes.




Custard Sauce Recipe:






1 egg yolk
2/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon sugar

A few drops of vanilla

Heat the milk in a double boiler. When hot, stir a little of it into the beaten yolk and the sugar, and mix well; then pour the yolk mixture into the hot milk, and continue stirring until it lightly coats a silver spoon lifted out of the same.
Set in a dish of cold water to cool. Add vanilla flavor.
