Making Ice Cream w/solar salt?

I hope this isn't a silly question, but I live in Florida and would like to make ice cream with my ice cream maker. Rock salt is required, but I cannot seem to locate anyone who sells it.

Is it possible to substitute solar salt for rock salt? Solar salt is used in water conditioning systems and comes in pellet form.

Thanks for any help!

jj3591,

I do not think it would be a good idea.
The chemical makeup is the same but salt for other purposes could have additives that could make it unsafe to be around food.

I would use Kosher salt. Not quite the same size as rock salt, but healthy. Good luck.

The label on the package says it is 99.5% salt. In any event, I just might try the kosher salt route.

Thanks for the tips.
