Bacon flavored SPAM

I know...some of you may gag at even the thought of SPAM...but we had a free can coupon, so I tried the bacon flavor.

Sliced thin (got about 10 strips from the can), fried in a pan til pretty crispy...wow. Even my wife thought it was pretty good.

Made a great sandwich with it for lunch. Gonna throw some in the fried hominy tomorrow.

Sounds good to me. I happen to like regular Spam cooked that way on a roll with tomatoes and mayonnaise. It really is good, if anyone thinks otherwise.

Ha...maybe its an OH and PA thing? My Mom used to fry the hominy with onion and bacon and then tried SPAM one time and my Dad and I loved it. Dad would make plain old uncooked SPAM sandwiches with mayo (actually MW) and onion.

Both my folks were young during the Depression...that may have been a factor.

When I fished a lot our guide in Canada preferred Spam for the shore lunch because he was tired of walleye fillets and oily lake trout.

I like it fried (maybe with a little cinnamon later and my wife (stubborn German from PA) thinks scrapple is the greatest thing in the world for a treat since they left the "oinks" in the pork scraps.

Hawaii is the largest market for Spam and there are restaurants that specialize in it in many forms. - It is unique.

Crispy fried spam, egg and cheese on a hard roll. One of my favorites that I haven't had in a long time.

Whenever we visit Hawaii it's Spam musubi for me.

Nobody really knows, but is generally pork products (no oinks included) of some sort. - Sort of like hamburger, where any type of beef scraps are allowed, except it is partially cooked and packaged.

I have heard that there is a problem with the "new" pork (other white meat) because it does not have enough fat for flavor. I only buy "old" pork from a farm or pork chops (1" - 1 1/2" thick) with a bone in since they taste better and are not as dry, tough and chewey.

The bacon flavored Spam sounds interesting for use in Spaghetti Carbonara and some other dishes.
