Question

The lock in the doorknob is not actually locking the door. Once locked, if I pull on the knob, the door opens. It appears that the part of the lock in the door that is supposed to go thru the strike plate in the door jam is slipping, but I can't see why.
Any suggestions or is it broken; only about six months old.

Appreciate any help.

Hi:duf

Based on the problem discription in your posting and the fact that this same door worked fine prior, all you should need to do is adjust the strike plate.

Normal useage, movements of the house and door jam, etc. may have caused the door knob bolt to not fully enter the hole in the strike palte. Adjusting the strike plate should correct the problem.

Good Luck,
