HELP Deadbolt stuck

Emtek mortise lock on front door. Deadbolt won't turn, neither with key nor with thumb turn. Door is stuck in shut position, so I can't "test" the lock. Jiggling doesn't help at all. The deadbolt won't turn even the slightest bit. When cylinder is unscrewed, cylinder turns fine with the key.

It sounds to me like you either have an alignment problem, or the latch bolt has failed. I suspect the first, as that is most common. Try lifting on the door handle, to see if it frees up the bolt. (It could be bound inward or outward also.) This will tell you if it is an alignment problem.

Now, on to the second possibility. If you can, take the lock apart, unscrewing as you talked about, and try to retract the bolt using a flat blade screwdriver. IF you cannot, the bolt is in need of replacement. These should be available at the major hardware stores, and any locksmith would have them as well. Hope this helps.
