Dexter lock set

I have a Dexter lock set from 1957 that has a 5" bolt in it. The clip that holds the bolt in has broken, and I need to replace the set with a nother 5" bolt set where can I find one?

Hi BR549,

There is what is called an extension link made by Schlage that will take a 2 3/8" Latch, and extend it out to 5". This really offers you a bigger choice as to which type/brand of lock you would like to use. Bear in mind though that a Kwikset lock will not work with this, nor will any lock that has a latch where the lock goes through it. It has to be the type with the little ears which hook into the lock itself. (Does that make sense?) If you have any more trouble though, post back, alright?

Hi BR549
If I read you right, you have a deadbolt that has a 5" backset?
Both Schlage and Weiser make a 5" backset for thier deadbolts (and there may be others).
They are'nt a very common item and might be a little hard to find, but just about any Locksmith shop should be able to order one in for you.
Of course, the cost will be higher....

Regards
