Unlocked Entry lock will not open - not deadbolt

Entry lock is unlocked but the door cannot be opened. The deadbolt portion is fine and the bolt moves freely. The secondary lock is frozen inside the strikeplate or off center and will not budge. So how do you remove existing lock in order to replace it if the door will not open?

Good Morning,

There are a couple of things to check first. From the outside, look at the spacing of the door in the frame. Is it even all the way around? I am suspecting you are correct about the door being jammed. If the spacing is correct, probably what has happened is the door has actually closed a little bit too far, causing the deadlatch portion of the lock to "drop in" the hole in the strike plate. (The little part of the latch that rides next to the larger part.) This is what causes the latch to act like a deadbolt. IF it has droped in, what needs to be done is, from the outside, push on the door while trying to turn the knob. You may have to push really hard. Maybe even kind of bump it with a shoulder while doing this. (They get pretty tight.) Try this, and if ti doesn't work for you, let me know, and well try something else.
