home outside door lock won't open
How can I remove the bolt from a standard Kwikset outside door knob with lock? The key would turn in the doorknob but not unlock the door. I have removed the doorknob but I can't remove the bolt which holds the door closed. I can't remove the door from it's hinges. I have used WD-40 and tried to slip various items in the crack of the door to pry the bolt back into the door but it appears to be frozen. Please reply if you have any suggestions.

Welcome to the forums texascharles!
If I understand your post correctly, you have the door knob off and the only thing holding it is the latch?
If the knob is off, you should be able to access the latch through the hole in the door. If the latch is jammed, try pushing/pulling lifting/depressing the door as you try to pull the latch back to remove possible binding.
If this still does not work, you can twist the latch to pieces in the door and pull it out bit by bit. This would work for a deadbolt lock also.

The kwikset latch mechanism uses a tiebolt design rather than a cylindrical latch. In the trade it is often referred as a "half-moon" mechanism.
The knob set's external housing holds the activation mechanism (spindle).
When removed completely....simply use a large flate blade screwdriver to pull the latch back.
Keep us posted please.
