In Need Of Help!!!

My door leading into my garage from my laundry room broke. The tongue piece is stuck in the locked position. The real problem is the door is closed. I realize that i need a new lock, but how do I get the old one off? I have already taken the knobs off. Can I turn the tongue somehow into the unlocked position, it is acting like it is stuck, so even when I unlock it the tongue does not move. Please help me!!

Welcome to the forums! Unscrew the bells and take the remainder of the door knob assembly off. This will leave you with only the plunger and its hook. Place a pair of needle nose pliers into the opening and while pushing on the door to the closed position, try to pull back on the plunger.

You also might try inserting a stiff putty knife between the door and the jamb and walk/pry the plunger open.
