Need to replace mailbox lock
I'm so frustrated. Something may or may not have gotten stuck inside the key hole. the key will only go half way. Spoke to PO - no help. they'll charge $40 to replace. I've drilled out the hole like everyone said to do. The lever (or tail?) is still in the down position and won't move. I saw the pin (or tumbler) that could be moved up and down. Putting a screw driver under the lever doesn't move it either. Waiting for the carrier isn't an option - I work all day. I can't see or hear him deliver the mail anyway. I need to get this fixed before they start returning my mail. HELP!

You say you drilled the lock?
If you have drilled it and it does not move then there is still something blocking the shearline. Redrill or change postion a bit.
If the key does not go in all the way, some lube and tapping the end of the key a bit can force the stuck tumbler. Not an option if drilled already.

To your second post, another thought----what size drill bit did you use? anything much bigger than 1/16" would probably mess up the lock, and even with a 1/16" I would not use a drill motor, but clamp it onto a small vice grip to use it as a "probe" to possibly remove any foreign material.

Whomever told you to drill a hole in the lock is obviously ignorant.
Drilling is always a last resort.
If you need to replace the lock, the cheapest option is the PO option (by far)
