Schlage Deadbolt Keys Don't Work, Button Catches But Works

I see all these comments about bad F-series locks, but don't know how to tell. All the numbers I see begin with B, P, or V.

I have 3 new 1-side keyed Schlage deadbolts that work fine with the interior button. However, when that button is turned to lock position, the key will not turn in the lock at all, although it fits nicely. The key with which you change the tumblers won't even go into the lock. And the button itself catches and clicks slightly when turning it to lock or unlock.

The holes and mortises seem to be correctly placed, the parts I can see seem to be correctly aligned and correctly installed, but obviously something is off or the keys would work and the button would turn smoothly.

I have been installing deadbolts on my rental properties for years and never encountered this problem.

Can anyone tell me what could be the cause?

Thanks

You'd be better off sticking to the regular non-rekeyabe type locks; you'll have better security, durability and less chance of a malfunction. These rekeyable locks by Schlage and Kwikset are just not "goof-proof" enough for much of the general public. As to your particular case, it would not surprise me if the product was faulty right out of the box.

Ditto

I know you all want to save a buck and not help your fellow small business people earn a quid too, by buying cheaper garbage at the big box stores, but paying peanuts will only get you monkeys.

Go To A Locksmith for trouble free products with guarantees.

keep buying the HD or Lowes garbage at your own peril. (End rant)
