Schlage Front Door Handle Set

Hi

i have a schlage keyed front door handle set that has a deadbolt and a door knob on the inside and a thumb lever on the outside.

the knob has no buttons or other features. if we turn the knob to the right it locks the thumb lever; if we turn it to the left it unlocks the thumb lever. We have exited and locked ourselves outside dozens of times because there is no way to unlock the thumb lever from the outside.

is there anything i can do to fix this?
thanks

That product cannot be modified to prevent the function you want.
I suggest removing the turnbutton completely.

actually, when i disassembled the knob I discovered that it was just originally assembled wrong.

it works great now. I can open the door by turning the knob in either direction and the thumblever stays unlocked.

If I want to lock the door all i have to do is take a key with me.

i have a similar problem that took a few times of getting locked out to get used to.
i installed schlage higher end entry lock set on my house.
when the door knob is locked from the inside-all you have to do is turn the knob from the inside to open the door ( like to go get the newspaper) but it does not 'unlock' the lock. so when you close the door it is still locked & you are now outside - possibly not completely dressed.
i guess this is good in case of an emergency - to get out!
just takes a little getting used to

Seems like this "locked out" problem is a common annoyance with a lot of folks...and inasmuch as most exterior doors have deadbolts nowadays, there is no need to have a locking latch...the logical answer is to replace the locking doorknob/lever/handleset latch with a non-locking ("passage function") latchset.
