installing security doors

when installing a security door should the new frame thats attached to the door meet the orignal frame work that it is being attached to. When our new doors were installed there is a gap between the orginal frame work and the new frame work and it was installed he placed screw right next to the new frame work to keep the new frame work from moving but there is a gap between the new frame work and the orginal frame work plus i can see outside through the frame work because there is such a big gap. i am questioning if my doors were not measured correctly.

Is this a metal security screen or barred door? Not the main door to your house? I am not sure I have a clear picture but if it is a metal security door replacing your old screen door then I would say that there should not be a gap between the frame of the door and your house frame. An exception might be if you elected to go with a stock size instead of a custom fit to save money. Is it fastened securely? Can you grab hold of it and shake the frame? If it is not solid this would be another sign of a cobble job.
