Welcome to the forums
Medeco is a high end lock producer, that looks like one which could be for a house, apartment or maybe even a padlock.
Any locksmiths in the area? These have security around duplication, it's possible a local locksmith dealt with your father and may have memory of him which would help.
Sorry to hear about your father.

We have several security enclosures similar to those used for storing keys for fire department access to buildings, and they use Medeco keys like that. Knox makes the enclosures that we have. That makes me wonder if there's a safe deposit box or other mini-safe somewhere that this key fits.

It's medeco M3. You would be best to contact the locksmith on the back of the key. If that fails contact the local medeco distributor and they will probably be able to tell you who owns the intellectual property
