door knob replacement

Hoping someone can help with this knob. I'm unable to remove it. I can't locate any springs or levers for removal. Also, the latch will not come off after removing the screws as it appears to be attached to another plate behind it. Any help would be appreciated.

It looks like there are 2 retaining clips, one on each side.

I would try to pry the clips outward & push the knob through. A hammer might not be a bad idea.

after further inspection, those "clips" are stationary in the unit. No mobility whatsoever. I've changed plenty of knobs in my day and never came across one like this. I'm thinking there has to be some kind of a release mechanism in the latch, just can't find it.

Try pushing the latch in with your thumb, hold it in, then try pulling the knob assembly out. Put the screws back in the latch to prevent it from wiggling. I believe it should slide off the latch unless you've bent it beyond repair.

If you shine a light into the hole, what do you see?

Hmmmm, this should be in a different area I think. No replies yet from our lock experts here.

Don't destroy it yet, I'll move it.

The same people read all the sub forums. I don't see how moving it will help.

Not true..GlobalLocky and Rstripe may not, since that's their main area of expertise. There's a re-direct, so everyone can still find it.

It sure didn't belong in windows doors and skylights.

This is the only forum I check, so thanks for moving it here. I've never seen the likes of this one. Can you read the brand name on the latch? And to confirm, is it the inside knob you've removed, or the outside one?

Oh, I see from the second pic. you've removed both knobs, but does the 1st pic. show the inside or outside? If it's the inside, I would agree that that clip-like plate on the latch side would need to be pulled out. It may fit tightly.

Not sure....but i think you might need to turn the latch to either 10 o'clock or 2 o'clock to disengage the mechanism.
