How do I remove a doorknob to tighten the screws?

I have a doorknob that is coming loose. All I need to do is remove the doorknob to tighten the screws, but I can't remove the doorknob. The screws are hidden under the rose (?), and there are 3 small holes on the doorknob, but no latch to push in. I have tried sticking pins into the three small holes to pry the doorknob off, but nothing is happening. Please help.

Welcome to the forums! Would it be possible for you to post pictures of the door knob so we can see what you see? http://www.doityourself.com/forum/el...your-post.html

Depending on the brand, if it's a Kwikset Defiant series, simply pry the rose cover back, to access the lever on the side of the inside connecting plate. Push lever CCW and handle will come off. Tighten connecting screws and reverse procedure to re-install.

Any I've seen have one rectanguler shaped slot that use use a flat bladed screw driver to push in the retaining clip.
