Push button door lock is too loud!!!
I recently got a new lever door handle with a push button lock(instead of the twist lock), it's nothing fancy, just your basic Schalge door lever handle.
Problem is the push button lock is way too loud when I lock it, it makes the loudest clicking sound, I can't figure out how to make it lock quietly. I've tried holding the lever down a bit(as if I'm opening the door) and locking it as the handle goes to normal position, but it doesn't work, I've tried locking it real quick as soon as the lever goes back to normal position, with no success.
Why do they make the push button locks so loud?
I like my privacy, whether I'm doing something in my room or jsut watching TV I don't like when people just barge in my room, so I like it locked.
Does anyone have any helpful suggestions for locking a push button lever door handle quietly?

Welcome to the forums.
That's the type of lock that uses batteries...... correct ?
Those are loud to let you know they actually locked. I don't believe there is way to make it quieter.
Possibly another member can shed more light on it.

I understand OP's irritation at the loudness of the lock. A person wants to discreetly lock the door. Not necessarily announce, "DO NOT DISTURB ME, I'M SPECIAL". Kind of like throwing it in the face of the other occupants of the home. It's a little thing but important.

One of my dorms in college had ten of us with bedrooms off a central seating area (4 double rooms and 2 singles) and we all noisily deadbolted our bedroom doors when we went in. Sorry, I still don't see why this is a problem.

It's more of an inconvenience than it is a problem. I recently started staying at my parents house while my house is getting some work done, and I'd rather be able to stealthly lock my door so they get all nosey and ask why.

If the door opens in get a door stop wedge like this https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt...0457/204198741.
Stick it into the space at the bottom the door and give it a little push (quietly ).

I googled "portable door lock" and there's a couple of nifty inventions that involve placing the gadget into the strike plate as you close the door, but even there, it would make clinking or ratcheting noise when securing....John's door wedge is the answer. Bonus: If discovered, she can say she uses it to prop the door OPEN.
