key stuck in brinks door lock

unlocked my front door and found the key is stuck. tried pushing in the center while pulling the key, keeping the key in the 12 o'clock position. that's what everything i found so far says to do, but it doesn't work.

Spray a little WD-40 in it and wiggle the key up and down... Turn it 180 degrees and wiggle and spray. Then turn it back and see if you can pull it out.

Assumptions: This is not a new key, but same one that works every day just fine. Also that you know just where the key is supposed to come out.

If the lock is old and/or well-worn and/or you've normally got to jiggle and pull a lot to get it out, a worn-out lock will sometimes allow a pin tumbler to become dislodged and jamb in a cut of the key. This is rare, but you just have to trash the lock if that's the case.

Far more likely, the plug has loosened, requiring (as you've read elsewhere) you to hold the plug in with your finger or thumb tip before you try to pull the key out. The pushing pressure on the plug has to be more than the pulling pressure on the key, to ensure the plug doesn't shift back.
