Best Architectural Shingle?
We need to reroof, replacing a GAF 30 year architectural shingle that was patched after probably 10 years and is leaking after 17 years. We are not the orignal owners. Our roofers suggest using Owens Corning Oakridge AR 30 year shingle. Is there a best shingle? I like the color of our present roof. Has GAF improved their product? Is there anything special that I need to include in the contract? It is a gable roof with a shallow slope over the eaves and several valleys. We live in Savannah GA.

I'll bet 10 to 1 that your attic isn't properly vented causing the short life for the shingles.
You SHOULD have AT LEAST 1 sq ft of free vent area for every 300 sq ft of attic area divided between high and low vents, more would be better if you live in a hot climate.
Most builders don't put enough in to save $$$ and by time the roof fails they are out of the picture anyways ...
I'll bet on GAF's website they specify proper venting or warranty is void
