fixing gutter with metal tape and gutter caulk

Hello, and may Peace be with you! I need to repair a gutter. There is a rusted tear in the front part of the bottom in one area and a small hole in another place. the tear is 4-6", and the hole is nickel size. I bought some metal repair tape and gutter caulk. I was thinking to sand the rust off as much as possible and sandwich the caulking in between the repair tape, then smooth some more caulking over the tape on both sides. Is this correct and if not how do I do it properly? Thank you for any advice you can offer. M

Gutter repair

Metal tape covered with the caulk or roofing asphalt will provide a band aid. I have repaired gutters with asphalt, over which I placed patches of denim jeans, and another layer of asphalt. Held up for several years.
