Question Asphalt vs Metal?

I need to replace the old asphalt shingles on my house. My house is a 60 year old brick tudor with a huge floored attic and apx. 20' from floor to the roof apex. The roof pitch is 10-12. With 4 valleys and 2 chimneys.

My wife and I really like the sound of rain on a metal roof and have noticed several new homes in the area that have colored metal roofs. Can someone please tell me which roofing material ( asphalt vs metal )would be best to use? Also, what would the cost in labor and material be say for a 20 square area? Thanks, Larry

Asphalt vs metal

Metal roofs tend to cost considerably more than asphalt roofs, but they also tend to last much longer. Costs of labor and materials vary from area to area. Get estimates from at least 3 reputable, licensed roofing contractors.
