Rain Handlers Question

We are considering using these mainatenance free arain handlers - not really gutters as we know them.

Hope I made the addy clickable.

Anyone here have experience with them. We like the idea of no downspouts and no using ladders, etc. for cleaning.

What do you think?

looks great if you want an outdoor shower or if you have plants next to the house, gutters are for deverting water away from your house and down a drain so your basement don`t leak.

How effective?

I have no personal experience with the new concept, just an opinion! Because of the slope of my house we needed 6" gutters installed in lieu of the smaller size for homes with gentler slopes. I have to wonder how effective the new concept is in a heavy rain. It appears to me that someone in an area that consistently has gentle rains these things might be effective. With the heavy rain I think there would be too much water for the surface tension to keep the water from running over the top of the gutter, down beside the house and into the basement.

Thanks

Roofdog and sandy2000 - Thank you for responding. We have not made up our minds positively yet but have considered the fact that in a really wet year we get only 9" of rain. Last week we had 1/2" rain with thunder and lightening. The thunder and lightening were exciting because it had been many years since that had occurred here in San Diego.

Our property has a gentle slope toward the back of the property and excellent drainage.

Currently there are no gutters at all and this has caused a rut on both sides of the house because the rain has been running directly from the eaves to the ground. We are fortunate that the basement has no leaks, in fact, due to our location we are lucky to even have a basement.<grin>

Thank you for taking your time to offer an opinion. We will get estimates and information on other systems and then make the decision.

Lynette
