Hip Roofs

I'm helping a friend build a gazebo with a hip roof. Neither one of us have put shingles on a hip roof before. We both have experience shingling a regular roof. Can someone offer me some guidance on hip roofs. Much Appreciated.

Thanks for any help.

how many sides is this hip roof? you`ll have to cut shingles at every edge,if each side is like a triangle you could just snap a line down the center and run your shingles off that, make sure you cut shingles flush at edges so your cap will set flat,i`ll need more details for better help.

This roof is 4 sided. But all sides don't meet at a point at the top. There is a four foot roof line at the top making two sides with the roof line and two sides meeting at a point.. I researched hip roofs on the internet and found a site that said you bring each course of shingles all the way around the roof before starting the next row. Is this true? Also just so I understand, your saying that you cut each shingle at the hip making a good fit so that the roof caps will sit flat? Could you explain where you are talking about snaping the chalk line? Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it.

i`m not good at visualizing so i`m not sure on the roof lines,as for the row all the way around the roof,i guess that would depend on the roofers abilities to match rows all the way around,if i just had a picture, the vertical chalk line is for starting your shingles off of(going right and left),if your using shingles with rain grooves,
