sizing ridge beam

I am building a home in west virginia. The roof is a cross gable design. The center section is 27'x30', with a 5/12 slope and a cathedral ceiling. The two intersecting sides are 21'x30'. I am using 2x10 rafters. My question is two part: Are the side sections suffucient to address the stress on the center section walls. If not what size ridge beam do I need? By the way, I do not want to use trusses.

Your question is a local building code question. The answer can vary in different parts of the country. Ask your local building department. Good Luck
