Question Roof runoff

I took my gutters down because they were always clogged by pine needles, leaves and standing water. Now, I want to install a guide or guides to carry water away from the entryway over the front steps. I see what appears to be angle iron on other roofs, but I have an additional problem: the roof forms a hip above the steps which guides water straight down to where I DON'T want it. Can anyone tell me how to create a runoff guide that will relieve that problem? Or where I can find information on how to do it? Thanks.

a hip is an outside corner. do you have a valley(inside corner). hips dont give off as much watershed as a valley. if its a valley there is not much you can do but have gutters. does it get freezing where you are from? icecles can be a problem in the winter w/o gutters.
