sheathing over shingles

Should I install sheathing over my existing shingles or remove them first? The roof is slat board.

Remove everything down to the bare wood slats and sheath over them.
Good luck!

Hello and welcome to the forums. I'm assuming from your question that your place originally had a shake roof, wood shingle nailed to 1"x's , possibly with asphalt shingles on top of that.

We generally strip that sort of roof right down to the trusses, and then resheet with osb or plywood, then lay the new roof. When redoing a roof, don't forget to install new flashing where needed & new drip edge.

Hope that helps out.

Remove all to the slats, leaving them alone. You will have to puchase 1" X 2" slats to pack out and support seams(or you could move the old ones). Sheath. Buy some drip edge to cover the edges. Hope this Helps!!

P.s--If you remove the slats, you will have to brace the trusses and could also cause a height issue with gable edges
