flat roof leaks

I am in need of a new roof, it leaks on the two flat sections. The home is about 50-60 years old small cottage type. I did new roof shingles about 4 years ago, but the flat parts of the roof are leaking. Can't afford a new roof but was wondering if a rubber roof would take care of the leaking problem. how expensive is this?

You installed shingles (like a 3 tab) on a flat (3/12 or less pitch) roof? They're gonna leak! Best solution would be to replace them with metal roofing. A temporary solution would be to coat them with something like Snow Coat.

Low slope roofing

I need to replace the roofing on a low slope roof on my sun room. It's only 500 sq ft and would like to do-it-myself. I need some advice on starting the first row, amount of overlap etc. Also, are rolled shingles OK or do I need to consider a built-up roof.

Rotten Rafter

I have a cathederal ceiling made out of 2 by 6's on 16" centers that are 16 feet in length. When I removed the existing roofing material I discovered two of the rafters have suffered rot due to a previous water leak in the roof many years ago. Can I lay a new one next to the rotten ones and nail them together ( not all of the existing rafter is rotten)or should I remove the existing and replace with new? If I remove the existing it will entail drywall work on the inside of my house that I don't want to do unless it is absolutely nessesary. Thanks in advance.
