Your web page on installing roof sheathing indicates that one of the most common mistakes is attaching the sheathing wrong side up.

I'm replacing a porch roof and plan to install new 1/2 CDX plywood. What side should up facing up?

Plywood usually has the grade stamp on the ugly side.

Grade stamp down is normal practice.

My website has DIY instructions on how to do this.

Also the grain of the plywood to run perpendicular to, and spanning a minimum of two trusses.Use "H" clips for proper spacing.

Roofing a roof

Hello; I have built an extension onto a friends house that I need to shingle. After the tar paper is put down do I put the Starter strip down? Also I am tying into an existing roof can you advise what I should be careful of? I am planing to put step flashing on the new roof where it attaches to the house but were the old roof attaches to the the new roof do I need to do something special? Thank you for your help.

15 lb. vs. 30 lb. felt

I noticed Jack recommended 30 lb. felt for a shingle roof. I assume its better, but some references say to go with 15 lb. and none have said why. I also assume 15lb is easier, but hwat are the pros and cons?
