Water Drainage Problem

Hi,

When we get a large amount of rain in a short period of time the water does not have time to drain away from the north side of my home. What happens is that the water that gathers then seeps over the top of my foundation and then runs down the walls of my basement.

I had a contractor out who wanted to dig a trench along the side of my foundation and out to the rear of the property. He would lay a plastic drain pipe in there. He said that would fix the problem. I had two problems with what he told me. 1. It would cost about $4,000. 2. There was absolutly no guarantee that it would work.

Does anyone have any ideas of a solution? Perhaps something I could do myself?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

What he is proposing is called a drain tile. Is is a standard practice and darn near 100% effective.

If you own a backhoe or can get access to one then you "might" consider doing it yourself.
