Question Archt. Asphalt Shingles - Which?

Seems that most Asphalt shingle manufacturers offer varying warranties (20 year, 30 year, etc.) on their product. I really don't see the 40+ year shingles lasting that long, but would assume that they last longer than the lower grades.

What I'm wondering is which offers the best value? I don't want cheap by any means, but I don't want to go overboard and pay a large premium for little return on investment.

Could someone in the roofing business or that's been through this process before share some advice?

Thanks in advance.

You're quite correct in your assumptions about shingles. My $.02 worth is I use & recommend Tamko roofing. I find them to be reasonably priced & the company absolutely stands behind their products provided proper installation methods have been used.
I generally use the mid-grade series.
You can check out their residential products lines at this site http://www.tamko.com/residential.htm
BTW they also make an Algae Relief product, which might interest you being in the SE
