I have an exising small flat roof porch over the front door. I am planning to build that up as a gable similar to a dormer to cover the front door. My question is does anyone have an idea as to how I can roof the valley without taking the existing shingles off down to the decking on the main roof. I am thinking I can weave the shingles of the new roof in with the existing shingles with tar. The new gable addition is only around 5 feet wide and nothing underneath other than a concrete porch. All input greatly appreciated

The shingles within 18" of the valley centerline will have to be removed. To start, chalk the lines (layout) of the "A" on the existing decking. That is the area of the shingles( + 18-24" of shingle) that will be removed.
