Repair a broken roof truss

My sister is selling her house and the home inspector noted that one of the roof trusses was broken. It's possible the roofers broke it by dropping stacks of shingles on that spot. The house is 35 years old.

My questions are:
-> can i use a sister truss mated right to the broken truss?

-> If i do, do i put one on both sides of it?

->do i just span the broken section with an 8' piece or run one the entire length of the existing truss?

Thanks for any information you give,

You could sister it, like you said 8 foot. Nail it first and then lag it. Do yourself a favor, consult the building code official in your area. They will instruct you how to fix it up to your local code.
