Question roof "radiant barrier"

I am about to replace my roof. I am considering a coated OSB sheathing called "radiant barrier" or "polarboard". Some of the contractors are very pro, others very against. I live in Bakersfield, California, where summer temps are severe, and understand that this will keep the house cooler. Does it? And by how much? It's going to raise the price of the OSB from about $8.00 to nearly $12.00 per board, so I don't want to do it unless it's really worth it.

any help much appreciated!

Before you make a decision, contact your local fire marshal. There are some areas, that this is not allowed on a roof due to several different reasons I will not discuss here. Ask him and see what he says.
