rain gutters

Hi all, I'm having a new house built and want to have rain gutters installed. Two contractors have bid and they both have a good track record. One contractor recommends mounting the gutters using screws and brackets, the other recommends spikes through the fascia.

I have been told that the screw and bracket system is a more durable choice over the long term.

However, contractor #2 states that due to all the snow and ice buildup we get here in the winter, spikes are a stronger choice and that installs he does with screws and brackets are a source of callbacks for him after a couple of winters.

Any ideas / comments / advice?

You do as you like, but since they invented screws and brackets, I have never hung another gutter with spikes. I have never had to replace or fis a screw and bracket I put in.

thanks for the comment. What's the snow accumulation like where you are?
