roof prices - seem right?

Hi we're looking to purchase a home. Inspector says it needs new plywood & shingles - also need 2 chimney's taken down to below roof line (applicance now power vented). The house is 60 x 16. contractor gave me a price of $7,700. w new plywood - $6,700 if he only removes/replaces shingles. He seems to think that only the outer egdes will need new wood.

Steep roof - will be tough to walk on I'm told...

Does the price seem right?

I've contacted other roofers and haven't heard back yet, time is of the essence as price of roof will probably be determining factor in whether we purchase home.

Something is wrong with the info you gave. You said 16 x 60. This must be for only 1/2 of the roof. Is your roof really 32 x 60 ?
If it is 32' x 60' then this amount is in the correct price range.
Good Luck

I assume 16x60 is half the roof, but the price for just replacement seemsa bit high unless the roof is REAL steep and they need to use roofjacks. I would bid the job out to atleast 3 contractors. For kicks, ask a contractor what the pitch of the roof is.

roof prices - seem right?

Okaythanks to your replies I received another quote from a differnt contractor. BTW the house is 16 x60

Contractor will remove and replace all plywood, remove 2 unused chimneys (furnaces arenow power vented) to below roof line. Also will resheet & reshingle 3 small porch roofs and replace rakes and provide/install gutters and downspouts & pay for permits (approx $100.00) for $7,450 - Now does it sound correct?
