Hi we're looking to purchase a home. Inspector says it needs new plywood & shingles - also need 2 chimney's taken down to below roof line (applicance now power vented). The house is 60 x 16. contractor gave me a price of $7,700. w new plywood - $6,700 if he only removes/replaces shingles. He seems to think that only the outer egdes will need new wood. Steep roof - will be tough to walk on I'm told... Does the price seem right? I've contacted other roofers and haven't heard back yet, time is of the essence as price of roof will probably be determining factor in whether we purchase home.

We want to pressure wash and then preserve our cedar shake roof, but it is very, very steep and slippery when wet. We're in the Pacific Northwest, where we get a lot of moss and green slime. Since we are novices at this (only had the house a few years- and our first shake roof), what do we do to get around up on the roof (preferrably without breaking too many shakes or sliding off)? :confused: Sue- desparate to keep my husband from killing himself.
