Roof pricing in N. Alabama

Can anyone give me a general idea of how much I can expect to pay for a new roof (ashphalt) vs. (metal) ? Mine is a "L" shaped ranch home (I believe) the roof is not steep at all. But not flat. If I were to guess, and it would be a guess, I would say a 20 degree angle. Or is it called pitch ? House is roughly 1700 sq. ft. living space,if that's of any use to you.

Roof

Metal roofs tend to cost more than asphalt. Pricing tends to vary from area to area and among different installers. Get at least 3 bids. Make sure the contractor is insured. Get certificates of insurance and call agencies to make sure they are current. Workers Comp to cover any injuries on your property (homeowners typically does not cover). Liability insurance in case damage is done to your property.
